Toyota Motor Philippines is recalling a certain batch of Yaris Cross units because of the possibility that its panoramic sunroof may detach and fly off.
The recall covers just the Yaris Cross S HEV variant and covers a total of 5,086 vehicles produced from May 29, 2023 to November 18, 2024.
Through its findings, Toyota found out that there has been an incorrect application of the glass primer which may result to a reduced adhesive bond between the roof glass and the roof panel. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, the worst-case scenario is that the panoramic roof glass may detach from the vehicle roof, increasing the risk of accident to other road users.
Involved customers will be notified by Toyota Motor Philippines through Official Notification Letter and will be invited by authorized Toyota Dealers to inspect the panoramic roof glass, and if necessary, repair / replace it with a new and improved one at no charge to the vehicle owner.
Customers whose vehicles are included in the service campaign are highly encouraged to immediately set an appointment with any authorized Toyota dealer to perform the necessary inspection to prevent problems from occurring. It may also be done during the Periodic Maintenance appointment if the vehicle is already due or approaching its regular maintenance schedule.

ReplyDeleteDaihatsu Indonesia really needs to improve the build quality of their vehicles
This is scary stuff. Toyota pa more...
ReplyDeletewow, if that happened without or before a recall, you could be billed for thousands for repair. glad, I watched "car care nut" about possible problems with a sunroof, since he repaired one. he is an expert on toyota and lexus vehicles in north america.
ReplyDeleteyet its still the best selling model in the segment, ppl should realize how toyota is scamming them
ReplyDeleteSales of it locally are down after the BYD Sealion 6 PHEV which is bigger and better is now available and on sale in the Philippine market
DeleteThe recall came from Toyota right? I would rather have this than discover a flaw without an admission from the company. Cheap crap companies no recalls so buy their products it is perfect
ReplyDeleteBuyers must manage their expectations when buying DNGA-based Toyotas. These follow Daihatsu quality standards, not Toyota's. This outsourcing is done to give buyers a tech-based vehicle but at affordable prices. YX being the most expensive among fellow platform mates (Raize, Wigo, Vios, Yaris, Avanza, Veloz) should have the highest standards but still not so. Sad but glad I did not buy one.
ReplyDeleteThe car is engineered to a price point/compete with Chinese offerings. Just take a look at the bare primer paint in the engine bay. Granted that's not an exposed or visible area, it says a lot about the manufacturer's regard for the vehicle and the people who buy it.
ReplyDeleteThat's the irony, Japan cars are more expensive to produce so they need to find their ways to produce cars at competitive prices. Toyota uses Daihatsu cars to meet country-specific standards or buying habits, while China cars uses global standards to get into a market.
