The Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation (TMP Foundation) has pledged a cash donation of P 3.5-million for the procurement of rice to the DSWD for communities severely affected by the recent typhoons and Habagat (southwest monsoon).
The announcement was made by Alfred Ty, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) and TMP Foundation Chairman.
This cash donation is one of the many ways TMP Foundation has given back to the Philippines.
Both TMP Founding Chairman and Alfred Ty’s late father, George S.K. Ty and Toyota Motor Corporation’s late chairman Shoichiro Toyoda share the same value of giving back to society. This has served as the guiding principle of TMP Foundation since its founding in 1990.
From a charity that served TMP’s immediate community in Bicutan, Parañaque City, where TMP’s manufacturing plant was first located, the TMP Foundation’s network has expanded to reach more Filipinos.
To date, community investments over the past 35 years represent a total of P 800-million. These include the UP Asian Center building and auditorium, the TMP School of Technology, and various activities centered on the main pillars of the TMP Foundation—Education, Health, Environment, and Community Service.
TMP Foundation’s earliest program focused on giving back through Health, with medical and dental outreach initiatives which later evolved to include more complex Medical and Surgical Operations with the assistance of Makati Medical Hospital volunteer doctors and surgeons. Since 1992, TMP Foundation has proudly served over 101,000 patients who needed it the most.
Giving back through the gift of Education, the TMP Foundation creates opportunities for the Filipino youth through our Automotive Education Program. Over 1,200 scholars have been granted since 1990 in partnership with 20 partner schools nationwide, eventually enabling their employment within the local and overseas Toyota network.
TMP Foundation's support to the UP Los Banos’ Makiling Botanic Gardens helps open minds to the importance of environmental conservation. They also continue to mobilize volunteers for TMP's larger nature-positive efforts such as the National Greening Program as well as the commitment to plant one million trees by 2030.
In the spirit of Community Service, the 4th Pillar, the Toyota City of Santa Rosa-Gawad Kalinga Village stands as a gift of hope for around 160 families. And throughout calamities, the pandemic, and natural disasters, the Foundation did not leave many other communities behind.
As TMP Foundation looks into the future, they are adding a fifth advocacy pillar—Mobility+. In synergy with other pillars, it will be instrumental in creating bigger impact through the mobility of people, mobility of things, mobility of information, and mobility of free and creative ideas for many Filipinos. To that end, they will develop innovative programs, and simultaneously, make the organization felt with its new brand identity.
Over the past decades, everyone has witnessed the Philippine motorization, where TMP has anchored its automotive business. Their success, however, is not solely measured by vehicles delivered. It is, primarily, owed to the trust and loyalty of every Toyota Customer and the vibrant communities they are present in.
Every Toyota vehicle purchased has, in turn, allowed the TMP Foundation to give back to the Filipino people—moving their lives and helping give them a better quality of living.
Why P3. 5M? Is there a significance to the amount?
