2022 Lexus ES Teased For PH Market, Coming Later This Month

Lexus Philippines has announced that the refreshed 2022 Lexus ES mid-sized premium sedan is making its local debut sometime later this month.

The Lexus ES has become a core model for the premium Japanese brand since its debut in 1989. Over 2.65 million units have been sold, and the 2022 version aims to further elevate its status as a refined and comfortable sedan well-loved by executives.

Lexus ES Chief Engineer Tetsuya Aoki is proud of what he has created during the development of the latest iteration. He shares what the current model has in store for its drivers, and the philosophy behind each improvement that was done to the car.

“We pursued development to meet and exceed the expectations of customers,” Aoki-san shares. “The exterior design has sharper headlights; a modern mesh grille; and sportier wheels. The interior features a touchscreen display for added convenience and operability.”

Defined by its coupe-like silhouette, the 2022 Lexus ES sports a re-designed spindle grille as well as ultra-compact triple-LED headlamps. Inside, the Lexus ES receives new color choices and a new 12.3-inch Lexus Premium Navigation system with touchscreen display. The switch to a touchscreen interface meant designers had to move the display around 100 mm closer to the driver. A 17-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound System also offers a world-class acoustic experience on the go.

According to Aoki-san, those changes are only skin deep. “Paying attention to the smallest details, we’ve made it so that you can enter the driver seat with ease,” he shares. “The response of the vehicle is faithful and true to the driver’s intentions according to the steering input. Launch from a standstill is swift. During lane changes, acceleration is stress-free and there is a natural movement to the ES. Turning the steering wheel allows for confident driving.”

True enough, while the 2022 Lexus ES continues with a 3.5-liter V6 making 300 horsepower and 357 Nm of torque, the premium sedan switches its construction methodology. Using a dual sheet structure as opposed to the current single-sheet design increases both torsional and lateral rigidity for improved ride comfort and more direct driving feel.

Moreover, the brakes have been improved by reducing the stroke of the brake pedal travel, expanding the surface area of the brake pedal, and improving the mounting of the internal bushing of the pedal link. All in all, this should result in improved brake controllability.

Based on the teasers that Lexus Philippines (sent below), the introduction of the 2022 Lexus ES might signal the arrival of a sportier F Sport variant for the mid-sized premium sedan. The F Sport adds 19-inch wheels, an Adaptive Variable Suspension for both higher-quality ride comfort and handling, and unique exterior and interior design touches.

Lexus Philippines has yet to announce prices, but it will likely see a small bump from the current P 4.478 million price tag.
