Toyota Updates Vios Yet Again For 2022

It looks like the Toyota Vios is due for another refresh in 2022; that is, if we look at Thailand’s Yaris Ativ.

Despite being updated just last year, Toyota’s sub-compact sedan features a mild redesign for 2022 with enlarged corner “brake ducts.” They still continue to house the front fog lamps, but they now have a spiffy silver surround there as well. The Thai market, at least, also standardizes the gloss black finish for the upper and lower front grille.

A new Sport Premium variant also gets high-gloss black side mirrors, side and rear skirts, and the unlocking of a black roof option which adds 12,000 Thai Baht (P 18,000) to the overall price.

Inside, all models get padded door trims with fabric for the entry-level models and synthetic leather with gray stitching for higher-end models. The top-of-the-line Sport Premium extends this padded treatment to the rear passengers and redesigns its front seats for better whiplash protection. The same variant gets a 4.3-inch TFT display in its instrument cluster, a setup that’s similar to the recently introduced Vios GR Sport and USB rear charging ports.

For safety, the 2022 Vios/Vios Ativ in Thailand benefits from the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) too. It adds autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist on top of the 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, and stability control system.

With the Philippine market Vios assembled in Santa Rosa, Laguna (as opposed to being imported CBU from Thailand), the chances of seeing these changes are still up in the air. That said, it won’t be impossible for Toyota Motor Philippines to bring these changes in stages, starting with relatively easy items first such as the new gauge cluster and interior trim first.

  1. I think the Vios/Yaris Ativ has stiffer competition in Thailand that's why Toyota is always updating it over there.
