BYD Philippines Shows Off Flagship Han EV And Tang EV (w/ Specs)

BYD, the world’s best-selling New Energy Vehicle brand is showcasing a full EV line-up at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). Through its authorized local distributor, Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corporation (STAR), the Han EV made its public debut amidst a “floating” Blade Battery motif at the pavilion.

The Han EV—the flagship of BYD’s Dynasty line of EVs—features a luxurious design backed up by cutting-edge technology and true sports performance that provides thrills and comfort.

Shown at MIAS is the top-of-the-line Han Lux which has a dual motor system that provides all-wheel drive. The front motor already produces 221 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque, but the rear motor provides a further 272 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Combined, outputs rise to 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. Zero to 100 km/h takes as little as 3.9 seconds. The Han EV Lux comes with a 76.9-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, enough to give it a range of up to 550 kilometers.

Charging can be done via a 6.6-kW wall box AC charger, or via a 100-kW DC charger. Using the latter tops up the battery from 30 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. Furthermore, it adds 50 kilometers of cruising range for every hour using the standard AC charger.

The Han EV is available for orders priced at P 3,688,000 and is available in two colors: Crimson Red and Doctor Black.

Joining the Han EV is the Tang EV. Previously available with a Dual Mode Plug-In Hybrid, the 7-seater SUV now comes in a pure EV version.

Sharing the same EV powertrain as the Han, the Tang EV produces the same peak horsepower and torque: 517 horsepower and 700 Nm. Using an 82.8-kWh lithium nickel manganese (NCM) battery, it delivers up to 500 kilometers on a single charge. Having a lower peak charging capability versus the Han EV (60 kW versus 100 kW), it takes close to two hours to go from 30 to 80 percent charge or 14 hours to fully charge using the AC charger.

The Tang EV is priced at 3,698,000 and comes in French Red and Timo White.

Mark Andrew Tieng, President and CEO of Solar Transport, shared that electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming an “increasingly popular form of transportation” and are vital in the “journey toward sustainable transportation.”

“EVs offer a number of benefits over traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, including lower emissions, reduced fuel costs, and smoother and quieter operations,” said Tieng, adding that BYD has contributed immensely to cutting down carbon emissions. In fact, as of April 13, 2023, BYD has saved 31,941,212,881 kilograms of carbon emissions equivalent to planting around 900 million trees.

“At BYD, we believe that sustainability is not just a buzzword — it’s a way of life. We’re proud to be a company that’s dedicated to making the world a better place, and this new technology is just one example of how we’re doing that,” concluded Tieng, with the invitation to join BYD in its quest toward green mobility on Philippine roads, so that the dream for a greener future becomes a reality.
