Mercedes-Benz Philippines is reversing on its all-electric goals by announcing that two plug-in hybrids will be joining the line-up this May.
Despite offering six fully electric models in the country—the EQA, EQB, EQE, EQE SUV, EQS, and EQS SUV—Mercedes-Benz Philippines is adding two PHEVs—the GLC 350e 4Matic PHEV and the E350e PHEV.
According to the brand, the introduction of these two PHEVs will enable them to blend electrification with luxury and performance. By prioritizing electric drive, they significantly lower tail pipe emissions, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment. At the same time, performance is elevated by harmonizing the combustion engine with the instant response of the electric motor.
Mercedes-Benz PHEVs also provide the convenience of flexible charging options, whether at home or at public stations, while also giving owners the benefit from government-provided tax incentives such exemption from the number coding scheme.
The German automaker has yet to reveal the full specifications, but in Germany, the E 350e PHEV has been discontinued since 2023. However, it’s still being assembled in Malaysia where the Philippines may source its vehicles. The Malaysian-spec model offers a combined output of 313 horsepower and 550 Nm (204 horsepower, 320 Nm from the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and 95 horsepower, 440 Nm from the electric motor). With a 25.4-kWh battery, the all-electric range is pegged at 118 kilometers.
Meanwhile, if the Philippines also sources the GLC from Malaysia, the GLC 350e 4Matic (weirdly, badged as the GLC 300e in other markets) uses the same combustion engine but with a more powerful electric motor—129 horsepower and 440 Nm. Still, total outputs remain at 313 horsepower and 550 Nm. With a 31.2-kWh battery, it offers an all-electric range of 131 kilometers.
