Okay…so far, Subaru’s 2025 New York International Auto Show announcements have been ugly and uglier. Surely, they can’t do a three out of three, right? Thankfully, the 2026 Trailseeker, the brand’s second EV offering, manages to dodge the ugly stick (slightly).
Starting with a Solterra as its base, Subaru lengthened the backend by some 150 mm. Together with its increased height that’s up an inch (around 25.4 mm), there’s more cargo space to go around. It’s still a five-seater, however.
Style-wise, Subaru manages to impart a better aesthetic here (the wonders of unpainted fenders). Like the Solterra it gets the new EV lighting signature with an illuminated logo. At the corners are 18 or 20-inch wheels. Its 210 mm ground clearance, raised roof rails, and dual X-Mode system signify it as being off-road ready.
Its trailing chops are backed up by the dual electric motors that offer 375 horsepower allowing it to tow 3,500 pounds (1,587 kilograms). Like the Solterra, the 2026 Trailseeker uses a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery delivering more than 418 kilometers (260 miles) of range. It comes with an onboard battery preconditioning system, equating to faster charging in warm or cold temperatures.
Subaru says the Trailseeker uses its own unique suspension and all-wheel drive system tuning for better straight-line stability and control. Using acceleration sensors in the front and rear, the Trailseeker adapts to the dynamic load while accelerating, braking, or turning, powering the correct wheels for improved traction and stability.
Inside, the horizontally-themed cabin has metallic finishes, a wide center console, and a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen—the largest ever fitted in a Subaru. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two 15-watt wireless chargers, and fast USB-C ports are standard too.
The Trailseeker is equipped with a suite of EyeSight driver-assistance technologies, including Pre-Collision Braking, Front Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitors, Lane Departure Alert, a panoramic view monitor, Emergency Stop Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, and more.
The Subaru Trailseeker will hit the market in 2026, at least in North America.
