Despite Its Airbags Not Deploying Properly, The Jaecoo J7 SHS Scored A 5-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

Despite the rear side of its curtain airbags failing to deploy properly during its Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program), the Jaecoo J7 SHS has achieved the highest possible 5-star safety rating.

The Euro NCAP highlighted the J7 SHS’s performance in all key areas—Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road Users, and Safety Assist technologies. Notably, the vehicle scored 81 percent in Adult Occupant Protection, 80 percent in Child Occupant Protection, and 80 percent in Safety Assist technologies.

Jaecoo says the J7’s structural integrity also contributes to its top-tier safety rating. With a body composed of 80 percent high-strength steel, the JAECOO 7 SHS offers enhanced protection in the event of a collision.

It’s also equipped with up to 21 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These technologies work in tandem to provide a comprehensive safety net for both the driver and passengers.

During its Euro NCAP test, however, it was noted that the rear of the side curtain airbag got trapped in the C-pillar trim, and did not deploy properly. Jaecoo’s investigation revealed that one of the clips holding the airbag in place had not been properly installed during production. Production line quality has been improved as a result, but regardless a penalty was applied in both side impacts, where the curtain airbag is meant to provide protection.
