Porsche Brings Back 1970s Nostalgia With The Limited-Edition 911 Spirit 70

Porsche brings a bit of nostalgic hippie vibes with the limited-edition Porsche 911 Spirit 70. Based on the 911 GTS Cabriolet, this marks the third Heritage Design model from the German sportscar maker and brings with it the spirit of disco, rebellion, bell bottom pants, and rock and roll.

Limited to just 1,500 examples, the 911 Spirit 70 comes in a new color: Olive Neo. Specially done for the 911 Spirit 70, it’s a shade of rich, deep green. Bronzite adds contrasting elements, and they’re found in the lower rear section, front section, and the Fuch design wheels. Meanwhile, the soft top is black, as is the windshield frame.

Three decorative stripes in black silk gloss run across the hood. This detail is reminiscent of the safety stickers from the 1970s. The stripes are continued tone-on-tone on the soft top. The side decorative graphics with Porsche lettering and round start number field (‘Lollipop’) in black silk gloss and individual start number are a nod to the brand's sporting tradition.

Other unique details include a Porsche crest that’s almost identical to the historic crest from 1963. There are also gold-colored “Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur” badges on the front wings, while the Porsche Heritage badge sits on the grille of the trunk lid. Galvanized gold-plated Porsche letter and model designation at the back complete the exterior changes.

The highlight of the interior is the iconic Pasha fabric pattern in black/olive neo. The graphic design of the fabric is reminiscent of a moving checkered flag. Different sized, cleverly arranged rectangles create a kind of movement in the pattern. Instead of jacquard velour as in the past, the 911 Spirit 70 combines a textile with flock yarns. This gives the fabric an even sportier character, an improved feel, and more comfort, especially on longer journeys.

The center panels of the 18-way sport seats, the door mirrors and even the inside of the glove compartment are covered in the Pasha pattern. The decorative inlays on the seat backrests and the trim on the dashboard are also available in Pasha, but as an option. The trunk mat also reversible with the same Pasha print. Contrasting that are black leather trim with decorative stitching in olive neo.

The 12.65-inch high-resolution gauge cluster also gets a retro feel. The pointers and scale lines are in white, while the digits are green. The same white and green combo are also found in the special version of the Sport Chrono stopwatch.

Since the 911 Spirit 70 uses the 911 GTS Cabriolet as its basis, it uses the newest hybrid powertrain to come from Porsche. In combination with the high-voltage system, the eTurbo and the electric motor in the new PDK, this 3.6-liter 6-cylinder achieves 541 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque.

  1. The ICON lives on... but of course best with a proper manual transmission gearbox.
