Chery Vaults Over Competition As Philippines' Best-Selling Plug-In Hybrid Brand

United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI), the official distributor of Chery automobiles in the Philippines, is topping industry sales charts for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Their strong performance is attributed to the all-new Tiggo rEV CD-M 7-seater PHEV SUV which recently saw the release of a new Luxury Edition (LE) variant.

The result was based on sales reports from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) reflecting sales of CAMPI and TMA member brands for October 2025.

To recap, last October, electrified vehicle sales jumped 62 percent in October to 3,603 units from 2,223 units in September. This accounts for 9 percent of all new vehicles sold. Sales of Hybrid Electric Vehicles surged by 73.9 percent to 3,044 units in October from 1,750 HEVs sold in September. Meanwhile, sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) soared by 192.6 percent to 275 units in October from 94 in September, while sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) declined by 25 percent to 284 units from 379 units in September.

With 81 units sold last October, the Tiggo rEV had a market share of more than 25 percent in the PHEV space. A total of 19 different PHEV models from 7 different brands we sold. The second highest sold 51 units.

From January to October, electrified vehicle sales stood at 24,265 units, accounting for 6.33 percent of the industry’s sales. 19,379 units of hybrid electric vehicles had been sold as of end-October, followed by 3,941 BEVs, and 945 PHEVs.

Chery’s performance was enough to vault them to among the leaders in the overall electrified vehicles sales race among CAMPI/TMA members, next to Toyota (number one in Hybrid EV sales) and Tesla (number one in Battery EV sales).

Chery also attributes its robust sales performance to its extensive network of 25 Chery dealerships nationwide, giving the brand a strong presence in every locality as well as enhancing its aftersales ownership experience.

Priced at P 1,528,000, the Tiggo rEV LE features the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system that’s compatible with both Type 2 and CCS2 charging. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 204 horsepower and 310Nm of torque. It’s paired with a dedicated hybrid transmission with a 1,400 kilometers of combined EV and hybrid range.

Inside, the new Tiggo rEV LE boasts a massive 15.6-inch floating infotainment display, paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. Other convenience-driven highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, Heads-up Display (HUD), ventilated front seats, remote engine start with brake pedal trigger, smart proximity key access, panoramic sunroof, and retractable flush door handles.

The Tiggo rEV LE comes with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM). It also has a 540-degree camera system with dynamic guidelines.

    1. Toyota is the best-selling non-plug in hybrid. As for this story re: the rEV, it's actually a press release sent by UAAGI (Chery Philippines), but it is based off actual CAMPI-TMA figures.

  8. This statement is made by CAMPI, as BYD Philippines is not a member of it so they have no data of their sales.

  9. Byd learned from Geely. When it was hot brag about the numbers. When it cooled off and low sales but it was required to report it as member of Campi. Geely pulled out of Campi and Byd learned from this

    1. Apparently, it's not that strict of a requirement to report sales numbers because the article here on carguide for the September 2025 figures included this line; "VinFast has withdrawn from reporting its sales figures to CAMPI until the end of 2025 citing internal concerns." So, maybe it's a special case that was granted but that fact that it was allowed means it's not non-negotiable.

Also, medyo different ang case nila Geely and BYD, because Geely pulling out of CAMPI was during their transition away from locally-led operations which itself was a decision made because of poor local management/coordination and led to many complaints about long wait times for parts.

After this transition, Geely has put up more facilities for their parts storage network and now claims a 95% parts fulfillment rate so maybe they will rejoin soon in the future.

For Geely, it was also 3 years after entering our market before they joined. As opposed to BYD who has, from what I searched, been here since 2013 where they barely sold any units but also never joined. It was not until they partnered with Ayala in 2023 that they started bringing in more and newer cars which led to their big 2024 performance.

If you assume that 2023 was the real year BYD entered the race, then; if you hypothetically have BYD join before August 2026 then they would be faster in joining CAMPI than Geely. Not that they couldn't have joined earlier, Tesla for example joined CAMPI the same year they entered the country. But, for BYD, them not being in this early is not a huge deal except for people wanting the specifics of their sales because of how popular they've gotten.

  12. Guys, with all due respect to BYD & SL6 owners (myself included), the Tiggo REV LE is truly overall superior to the SL6 and a much much better value than the Tang DMI, and even the SL 5 especially if one considers the tech/features as well as doing 2 30+ minutes test drives against both BYD's SL6 & Tang DMI.

If BYD doesn't publish its PHEV sales then there's more than 1 self-serving reason for doing such, as in not showing that their sales are dropping. Also, that's on BYD not to publish its sales figures. and it cannot be assumed that BYD still lead sales in PHEV vehicles.

I was intending to purchase another SL6 until I tested the Tiggo REV LE. I was immediately convinced to get the Tiggo Rev LE instead. To be sure, I again test drove the Tiggo REV LE from another dealer, and was actually more impressed the 2nd time around.

Having extensively test driven, sat inside, & researched the Tiggo REV LE it's believable that it has by now (especially @ P1.528M plus dealer incentives) outsold BYD's PHEVs.

From reports in Australia, BYD claimed it had sold 51K NEVs & claimed Carbon Credits for all 51K units but the Australian government's record show only about 38K units have been actually sold so such shows BYD has often "doctored" its figures (same as BYD's doctored figure of its billions of debt).

Note further that it's the Tiggo REV LE (UK's version is identified as the 2026 Chery Tiggo 8 even as it's a PHEV) ) that's UK's Carwow's 2026 Car of the Year.

    1. Your mention of the Australia situation made me read up on it. Apparently, over there you get carbon credits immediately upon import and not on the sell date. BYD claims that they are getting ahead of their demand by importing more, and earlier. On the other hand, whether their expected demand will increase by as much as they are expecting is a matter of a future revisit and discussion. But they are NOT reporting 51k as sales, it's just the total imports.

You claiming BYD are "doctoring" its figures in Australia is flat-out disinformation, given these facts. They are being questioned if they are abusing the carbon credit program but they have answered it by saying what I mentioned above.

For contrast, BYD always reports -SALES- during their general meetings while some companies like Tesla report -DELIVERIES- during their earnings calls (you can google that, Tesla never report sales, only deliveries). So, when you have news in the states covering big lots of unsold Teslas then I'd argue that's more of an example of selective reporting by the company since Tesla also gets to claim carbon credits for the manufactured (but still unsold) cars while also painting the picture to investors as a positive (since those cars are counted as 'delivered' which is their primary metric reported).

Congrats to Chery with getting that award and maybe that will motivate BYD (and ideally every car maker) to get even better.

    1. Big NO! CATL is the worlds leader in EV battery with 40% worlwide market share. Byd battery now besets by lots of recalls(reuters news). Tesla mostly used panasonic batteries its long time supplier.

    2. BYD is just one of many battery suppliers of Tesla and it only supplies raw LFP batteries in Europe, contrary to the misinformed claims of most BYD Agents that Tesla uses BYD Blade Batteries (personally heard this claim over and over again).

    3. 'Tesla is even using it' is the same as being 'one of many battery suppliers of Tesla' is it not? Adding context is good, but it doesn't mean the claim is inherently wrong.

    4. The byd sales agent intention is hideous and inherently wrong

    5. Hideous? lol You're waaay too invested on that point.

Their statement goes like this, yes?

      > BYD's batteries are used by Tesla, the company.* <

It's the asterisk there (about how much/little volume it actually accounts for) that's not being mentioned there but you shouldn't be surprised.

If you were to bring them to court you're pretty sure to lose that case. lol

  15. Meanwhile, some reports (from insiders and external sources) indicate that the SL6 alone is producing more than 1,000 units per month. Needless to say, Chery’s Tiggo REV is a serious contender, possibly even the better option for some buyers. Moreover, as road and brand fatigue toward BYD and its bestseller, the SL6, inevitably set in, Chery may eventually capture a share of that market.

This announcement also serves as a strategic positioning move, especially with Geely’s imminent launch of the plug-in variant of the EX5 next year, which is expected to gain traction and potentially become the brand’s much-needed lifeline, considering the growth of the PHEV segment (driven by BYD).
