MG Philippines Achieves Record Sales In 2021 Outselling Geely And Kia

The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the exclusive distributor of MG vehicles in the Philippines achieves a sales record in 2021 by selling 6,343 units—an 85 percent increase against the same period in 2020. It also marks a milestone year for MG Philippines, as it is the brand’s best sales achievement in its three years of existence. MG Philippines also ended 2021 on a high note recording over 2,000 sales in Q4 2021 alone, logging the brand’s strongest sales quarter in 2021.

Although MG Philippines does not report its sales to CAMPI-TMA or AVID, if they did, it would be enough for eighth place, displacing Geely (6,272 units) and Kia (3,748 units).

Driving sales for MG Philippines are its two best-selling models: the MG 5 Sedan which is highly regarded in the local subcompact sedan category for its best-in-class features, exterior size, cabin and luggage space, and driving dynamics; and the highly popular, value-laden ZS Crossover SUV. From January to December 2021, total sales of the MG 5 sedan are recorded at 2,013 units, while 4,158 units of the ZS Crossover SUV were sold over the same period. Compared to their YTD sales figures in 2020, both reflect marked increases at 85 percent and 117 percent for the MG 5 and ZS, respectively.

“MG Philippines entered 2021with optimism and excitement, fueled by the strong reception of the market and the confidence of our dealer network for the MG brand and its model offers. We approached 2021 confident that MG, with its strong British heritage and superior product portfolio, would resonate with an even wider Filipino audience considering the increasing mobility requirements brought about by the current circumstances,” says Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, President and CEO of The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI,) the official distributor of MG in the Philippines.

Atty. Arcilla adds: “MG Philippines’ year-on-year sales performance has significantly grown by 85 percent from 2020, as TCCCI engaged the market with the modern vehicle designs, advanced features, driver and passenger benefits, and an enjoyable overall ownership experience which is all part of the MG brand promise. Our achievements in 2021 are a testament to the collective efforts of our principals at SMIL, and the invaluable guidance of our Board, executed with determination by the Management Team and the stewards of TCCCI-MG Philippines.”

“TCCCI further acknowledges the support, trust, and commitment of our dealer partners amidst the very challenging market dynamics and the confidence instilled in MG by our esteemed stakeholders—our clients, bank partners, media partners, and the general motoring public, have been invaluable factors for the growth of MG,” says Atty. Arcilla.

In 2021, MG Philippines introduced the turbocharged MG ZST (see lead photo), adding a new and exciting variant to the existing roster of the best-selling MG ZS model line (composed of the Alpha AT, Style AT, and Core MT variants.)

This 2022, MG Philippines will continue to adapt and grow while offering exciting new models and more value-added aftersales services, with the continuous expansion of the brand’s nationwide dealership network so that more Filipinos can get easy access to their own MG.

“This 2022, MG Philippines is excited to share that we will have two dynamic product launches in the first semester of 2022 that will expectedly delight the local motoring public. These all-new models will participate in competitive vehicle segments and are expected to exponentially increase the brand appreciation and sales of MG,” says Atty. Arcilla.

MG Philippines also continues to offer the latest MG models with aggressive promo offers this 2022. Expect low down payment options or generous cash discounts on all MG models throughout the year for select MG cars purchased from any of MG Philippines’ 39 accredited dealerships nationwide.

Furthermore, MG Philippines forges on into the new year continuing to offer all MG clients signature #MGCare services: from 24/7 roadside assistance, a 5-year or 100,000-kilometer brand-new vehicle warranty, MG Mobile Garage, access to genuine MG spare parts, and easy maintenance scheduling using the proprietary My MG App.

  1. But they must launch the MG HS and HS Turbo, Hector, ZS EV, RX8 and the all-new MG5 within this year to further boost their sales.

    1. They're launching two new vehicles this year. One is likely the RX8 mid-sized SUV...the other though remains a mystery. It could be the HS or the all-new MG 5.

  3. Wow, MG and Geely are still toe-to-toe in their rivalry in our country. More rivalry in the coming years 😊

  4. MG Motors have more better future products for the Philippines market than the Geely can offer. But the local distributor is just waiting for the right time until it's inventory sold out. I wished the new MG5 n 6 would soon arrived than later before it's too late. The competition is heating up.
