When It Comes To EVs, Filipinos Have One Thing In Mind: Tesla

Despite not having an official presence in the country, Tesla is the most recognizable EV brand for Filipinos. This is based on Google search data compiled by U.K.-based Lease Fetcher, a car leasing comparison site and broker.

According to their research and methodology, Filipinos gravitate towards Tesla with the Model X being the most searched EV model in the country in 2021. Meanwhile, the Tesla Roadster is the most searched upcoming EV model.

The strong recall of the Tesla brand when it comes to EVs is reflected not just in the Philippines, but worldwide as well. All four existing Tesla models—the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y make up the Top 5 global search list when it comes to search volume in 2021. The Model 3 alone had 25.44 million searches last year—averaging 2.12 million searches per month.

It comes as no surprise that when looked at on a per-country basis, the Model 3 also topped the list in 64 out of 168 countries. This is followed by the Model X, Model S, Porsche Taycan, and Nissan LEAF.

Meanwhile, when it comes to upcoming EVs, the Tesla Roadster is the most anticipated EV model on a global scale, topping the charts in 56 out 118 countries. This is followed by the Apple Car which topped the searches in 54 countries then the Tesla Cybertruck in 22 countries. The BMW i4 and Chevrolet Silverado EV complete the Top 5.
