Issues with your 11th generation Civic’s paint work, particularly how easy it chips? Well, Honda seems to be acknowledging the problem as they’ve rolled out a rather peculiar update focusing on one thing and one thing only: the clear coat.
Going on sale in Japan, the 2026 Civic will feature a new clear coat that swaps its conventional acrylic melamine to something with improved toughness. Honda didn’t go into technical detail about what’s new with this clear coat, but only that it offers 1.5 times the durability compared to the current finish. This, in turn, should make it more resistant to paint chipping and scratches.
The more durable paint finish will also be applied to the Civic’s crossover counterpart, the ZR-V (North American HR-V) as well.
Sadly, this new and more durable finish doesn’t come for free. Along with the new clear coat, this partially improved Civic will feature a hike in suggested retail prices due to the “global rise in raw materials and logistics costs.”
So far, the new paint will roll out to Civics manufactured at the Saitama, Japan assembly plant. No word if they’ll roll out the changes to other assembly plants (or other models) such as the Prachinburi, Thailand plant where the Philippines sources its Honda models out of.

Would there be a recall?
ReplyDeleteNope. Very clear it's not a recall, but a product improvement.
