5 Things We Love About The MG S5 EV

MG is banking on electrification as its main driver here in the Philippines. If you didn’t notice, they launched four new energy vehicles so far just in the first half of 2026. There’s the PHEVs in the G50, HS, and RX9, while the MG4 Urban EV is their newest entry-level battery-electric vehicle.

I’m not sure if they meant to do it but their fifth car this year is the aptly named MG S5 EV. This compact crossover will retail for P 1,448,888. You can see its full specs here but to make things easier, here are 5 things that definitely stand out with the S5 that make it lovely.

#1. Design Restraint

First is the design restraint. MG always knows when to hold back with their cosmetics that lead to a minimalist yet classy aesthetic. The S5 features a simple front fascia but has distinct touches like the checked-flag DRL assembly, the hidden headlights, and aerodynamic contours.

The same can be said for the interior. The dashboard layout is clean especially with the utilization of hidden air vents despite being in their usual placements. There’s a sizable 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.8-inch touchscreen with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The fabric seats aren’t bland and have a nice feel to them, while the rotary shifter gives just enough futurism and the flat-top flat-bottom steering wheel gives the right amount of sporty hints.

You also have to give MG their flowers with the retention of physical buttons here at the dash. The controls for the Automatic Climate Control, Hazard, and Volume Adjustment are all under the touchscreen so you won’t have to fumble on a flat screen while driving.

#2. Sporty Hints

While the design is modest, the S5 EV has some sporty hints beyond the steering wheel. This EV is rear-wheel driven giving it a more balanced dynamic especially on cornering. With 170 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, this makes the S5 more agile than your typical front-wheel driven EV.

This power is accompanied by a 49-kWh battery that gives it a driving range of around 415 kilometers on a single charge. It can also be charged quickly from 10 to 90 percent in just 24 minutes while standard charging is up to 7 kW.

#3. Customized Drive

The third thing is the customization available in the S5. It has five drive modes in Normal, Sport, Comfort, Snow, and Custom. Regenerative braking also has options in Low, Medium, Strong, and Adaptive. It also has a one-pedal drive that leads to less leg fatigue in city driving as your foot won’t have to go back and forth between the brake and throttle pedal.

#4. Robust Safety

Fourth thing you’ll definitely appreciate is the robust safety package the S5 has. It’s stacked with modern standard amenities like 7 airbags, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Rear Sensors and a Rear Camera.

MG Pilot is also present for the S5. It hosts a few advanced safety features like Front Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Driver Monitoring System among others. Combined with the standard safety bits, this gave the S5 EV a 5-star rating from the Euro NCAP and ANCAP.

#5. Competitive Pricing

The last thing you’ll appreciate about the all-new S5 EV is the price. It will retail for P 1,448,888 pesos but has an introductory price of P 1,408,888. That’s not all. If you reserve it for only P 1,000 pesos during the MG Multiply Greatness Tour in Trinoma until August 30, you can get it for only P 1,398,888. This special promo will also come with a charging kit worth P 30,000 that includes a 7 kW wall charger and a 3.3 kW portable charger.

The all-new MG S5 EV will be available in Desert Sand Beige, Andes Gray, Cosmic Silver, and Dover White. Meanwhile, the MG Multiply Greatness Tour will continue beyond August 30. It will be held in Pampanga, Laguna, and Cebu with dates to be announced at a later date.
