The 2027 GR 86 features refinements to its throttle and electric power steering system. The throttle has been tweaked to improve acceleration control on low-friction surfaces such as wet or snow-covered roads. This was done without compromising on its linear responsiveness.

Meanwhile, the EPS was worked on to eliminate wobble in high-speed corners and on rough surfaces helping the GR 86 achieve a more confidence-inspiring control setup.

For variants equipped with the 6-speed manual, the chamfer on the shift interlock is now 0.5 mm broader for enhanced operability when downshifting from fifth to fourth gear, ensuring smoother, stress-free, at-the-limit corner entry.

The mechanical changes come with a new exterior color: Solid Gray. In addition, the interior sees minor improvements such as redesigned switchgear for better grip and the use of cast iron black-colored accents to reduce reflections.

When optioned with the black-and-red color scheme, the accents are now more enveloping, evoking a feel akin to the previous Toyota 86.

For safety, the EyeSight driver-assist system now comes with a three-camera setup. The enhanced system combines wide-angle stereo cameras with an ultra-wide-angle monocular camera to provide a field of view broader than ever before, supporting safe driving across a wide range of situations.

The refreshed GR86 goes on sale later this month in Japan.
