Hyundai Shows Off 2022 Casper Mini SUV. Better Than A Kia Picanto?

Hyundai is expanding its SUV portfolio with the first-ever 2022 Casper. Named after a skateboarding technique where the board is made to flip, it, according to the Korean automaker aims to change the game when it comes to existing SUV stereotypes.

Shown for the first time in these official photos, the Casper comes in with a measurement of 3,595 mm in length, 1595 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height. This slots it below the Venue in both size and positioning.

In fact, it’s made to compete in the sub-compact city car category against the likes of the Kia Picanto or Hyundai i10 (the i10 isn’t sold in Korea). Yet, the generous 2,400 mm wheelbase points to a roomy, versatile, and flexible interior.

Powering the Casper is a choice between two 1.0-liter powerplants. The normally-aspirated version makes 76 horsepower, while the turbocharged version does 100 horsepower.

For now, Hyundai is confirming the Casper for the domestic Korean market. However, a derivative—the AX1—is said to be in the works for the Southeast Asian market and this could include the Philippines. Either way, more details will be given about this new sub-compact / mini-SUV closer to its official global debut.

  1. This needs to come to the Pi. We love the Suzuki spresso but the wife doesn't know how to doesn't know how to drive a manual and Suzuki refuses to bring the automatic version here. Maybe they will change there mind with some direct competition that seems much more advanced in the design of the vehicle.
