Toyota Motor PH Confirms RAV Hybrid Coming In February For P 2.157M

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) continues to lead the way to sustainable mobility by offering the widest range of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) locally. Next month, its lineup of next generation, environment-friendly cars will further expand with the introduction of the hybrid variant of another iconic SUV.

The country’s leading automotive and mobility company has confirmed that it is bringing the new RAV4 HEV to the Philippines this February. This bold update to the iconic model last refreshed in 2019 is TMP’s second hybrid crossover, following the introduction of the hit Corolla Cross HEV in 2020.

“The rapid succession of Toyota’s HEV model introductions in the country is an indicator that Hybrid cars are now mainstream. Filipinos are ready for energy efficient mobility options with less emissions, and Hybrids offer choices that are practical and ready to use in our existing infrastructure and road conditions,” said Sherwin Chualim, TMP’s First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations.

Just last December, TMP launched the new Camry HEV for the luxury sedan segment. The launch of the RAV4 HEV will bring TMP’s total Hybrid models to five, adding up to the pioneering Prius, Corolla Altis HEV, and Corolla Cross HEV.

On top of the self-charging Hybrid technology (no need to plug in) the New RAV4 HEV is expected to carry more exciting innovation and technology, like advanced safety features, Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) development, combined with the signature quality, durability, and reliability, suitable for the brave and adventurous.

Full features and specifications will be revealed soon, but the suggested retail price is pegged at P 2.157 million, a P 190,000 premium over the RAV4 2.5 XLE and cheaper than current range-topping 2.5 LTD by 117,000.

  1. Great, PH now have a RAV4 worthy of the name. The hybrid is AWD if I am not mistaken.

Also, saw a hybrid RAV4 in the wild a few months ago in BGC, I guess it's their test unit.

    1. Actually, there's also a FWD Hybrid, at least in Europe. Still don't know what Toyota Motor PH will offer here...I'm betting it'll be FWD. It still makes a healthy 218 horsepower (AWD has 222 horsepower)--way better value than Forester right now.

  2. Why does toyota always pair their hybrids with e-cvt? Hindi ba compatible ang traditional AT sa hybrids?

    1. It should be noted that Toyota's hybrids don't use a typical CVT. Alex on Autos on YouTube describes the gearbox as a "planetary gearset" and that such system was more akin to BEVs and more reliable/fuel efficient than hybrids using a traditional torque converter automatic.

  3. Looks like Toyota is aiming to be the real hybrid brand, Honda the safety brand with sensing. How about Nissan and Mazda?

    1. Mazda will have the hybrid mated to AT. I'm betting this Rav4 will also be CVT

    2. Mazda is also offering hybrids in their 2022 Mazda3 and CX-30. The system is called M Hybrid, and yes, it's paired to a 6-speed AT. Also, most of their higher-trim vehicles come with i-Activsense--it's not as catchy as Honda SENSING, but does the same thing. Nissan, meanwhile, has Nissan Intelligent Mobility which gives similar features. They also have the Leaf EV too.

  4. Nice, i supposed it's not a PHEV. When will Honda introduce their HEV CRV?

    1. Honda currently offers the diesel...unlikely we'll see the CR-V HEV in this generation. Likely the next generation.

    2. I hope they will introduce it soon, otherwise, sticking to their current line-up will cause defection among their clients, i myself own a 2017 version of CRV which i purchased in 2016. I love that vehicle, ever since I become a loyal Honda follower

  5. Why didnt they introduce this on December 2021? Kinda sucks for people who bought a RAV4 then. Its the priciest of the CUVs and it has the least features. Now with this its a complete turnaround.
