Foton, Piaggio To Collaborate On EV Trucks

Foton and Piaggio are teaming up for a range of small all-electric trucks. The deal was formalized with a signing ceremony between the Chaiman of the Piaggio Group Board of Directors, Matteo Colaninno and Foton Motor Group Chairman, Chang Rui.

The deal will extend the Piaggio range of commercial vehicles with two new four-wheel electric variants, designed to meet the specific needs of intra-city mobility. It will combine compact dimensions and a payload capacity of at least one-ton, particularly high for this class of vehicle.

The new range of electric Porter models will be manufactured in Italy, in the Piaggio Group’s Pontedera factory. Marketing will begin by the end of 2024 in Europe.

No details about the new all-electric Porter was given, but it will likely be based on the recently-launched Foton e-Wonder mini truck (top photo).

According to Piaggio, the new all-electric Porter (as well as a planned combustion engine version) will come equipped with active and passive vehicle safety systems, including advanced driver assistance systems or ADAS.

The agreement between Foton and Piaggio consolidates the positive partnership set up by the two groups, which led to the introduction in 2021 of the first city truck, the new Porter NP6.
