What Do You Get With Hyundai's P 1.998M Santa Fe 2.5 GL 2WD 7-Seater SUV? (w/ Specs)

Hyundai Motor Philippines made a surprise by adding a sub-P2-million variant of its Santa Fe 7-seater mid-sized SUV. Priced at P 1,998,000, it’s now a match not just against traditional pickup-based passenger vehicles (PPVs), but also offerings from China as well.

The Santa Fe 2.5 GL 2WD, as the variant’s officially called, is mechanically the same as the 2.5 GLS 2WD. It means being powered by a normally-aspirated 2.5-liter Smartstream G gasoline engine with 194 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque. This is mated to an 8-speed automatic driving the front wheels. Also like the GLS variant, the 2.5 GL 2WD runs on 20-inch wheels with 225/45R20 tires. At each corner are high-performance dampers too.

Since the GL and the GLS are the same mechanically, how was Hyundai Motor Philippines able to price the Santa Fe 2.5 GL 2WD a full P 412,000 less than the GLS? Good question. Well, for starters, it makes do with a temporary-type spare tire. Then it removes the rain-sensing wipers and dual panel sunroof.

Inside, it loses some of its luxury accoutrements like the powered front passenger seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient (mood) lighting, and leather seats. The rear side roller blinds have also been omitted. Surprisingly, it managed to keep the dual 12.3-inch screens and even the finger print recognition system.

The safety features have also been simplified with the removal of Hyundai Smartsense and the 360-degree camera. At least it still has a complete set of airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill start assist, tire pressure sensors, front and rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.

Check out the full specs of this new Santa Fe variant below.

  2. Priced just right. No need for those added tech which result in added complexity. Hyundai Ph made the right move with this.

  4. The 2 million price point is getting crowded and I mean that in a good way. Cheaper than Sorento base but with power liftgate plus you keep the "change" as gas money. Bigger than RAV4 and CR-V base trims and if you've been driving long enough, you won't miss the missing ADAS. The only fly is it's very close in price to the diesel Tucson. That, and the fact that Sealion 6 exists.

  5. Hyundai just removed the unnecessary features. I hope that in the future, we can be like other countries where we can customize our cars and select the colors and features we want to have.

    1. Pag hybrid boxy cars, mas ok Baic B30e mas lower price niya, meron 2WD at AWD siya, or Baic b40 pro, diesel power naman siya, both very wide ang back seat niya, kaya pwede as 6 seater siya. Baic is known being true real all terrain cars, unlike some other brand, look like all terrain car or mas nicer outside look, but under power pag dating sa driving.

  7. that's a great price point for a midsize global model. It's crazy how that makes the compact RAV-4 and CR-V now more expensive than this... :/

  8. A death trap, gas guzzler. Either you suffer from gas prices or sell at a quarter of its price

      Why death trap?

    3. I would rather suffer from gas prices than sell at a quarter of its price. That's why I chose neither.

    4. So I've been checking used car listings and it seems na ung mga 3rd gen na Santa Fe are selling around what you're claiming. However, yung 4th gen na models are selling much closer to their SRP and seem to be holding their value better. Not as much as cars like from Toyota but still better than before. They must have done a better job with the 4th gen to make it more desirable and keep higher resale values. If this 5th gen is an improvement on that then maybe the gap might close even more but that's just my speculation.

  9. 2.5 engine, mataas ang gas consuming, also automatic transmission more expensive maintenance cost than Cvt or Dct transmission.

  10. Still nice even with the removal of ADAS but maintaining some important features like front and rear sensors. I only wish they retained the dimming rear view mirror.

  11. That is not bad, actually.

  12. The tartan on the seats make it look very dated.
