Toyota Just Phased Out The Wigo TRD S For...The Wigo GR Sport

In a move that’s rather expected, Toyota is phasing out the Wigo TRD S in favor of—drum roll, please—the Wigo GR Sport.

Toyota Racing Development or TRD is Toyota’s in-house tuning brand established way back in 1976. However, since 2007, the Japanese carmaker has been slowly consolidating its performance-oriented offering under the Gazoo Racing brand.

Currently, there are three tiers of Gazoo Racing cars—the GR Sport, the GR, and the GRMN.

The mid-tier GR—Toyota’s authentic sports model is where vehicles such as the GR Supra, GR 86, and GR Yaris belong to. At the highest-tier is the GRMN or “Gazoo Racing Made for the Nurburgring” which are basically limited-edition models, while at the lowest-tier is the GR Sport which are run-of-the-mill Toyotas with cosmetic upgrades and slight suspension tweaking here and there.

With that in mind, the Wigo GR Sport (aka Agya GR Sport) is basically the very same TRD S variant but with the TRD emblems shaved off the bumpers and rear spoiler (which is now colored black). Instead, it gets a GR Sport badge slapped at the back. Perhaps the only addition between this and the previous TRD S is the standard decals which, of course, contain the Gazoo Racing branding.

For the Indonesian market, the Wigo GR Sport is powered exclusively by a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine with 88 horsepower and 107 Nm of torque. This is mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

It’s just going to be a matter of time when Toyota Motor Philippines also shifts the Wigo TRD S’s branding to the GR Sport. But for the local market, expect it to continue using the 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine with 66 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque.
