Toyota Finally Gives The Fortuner The Gazoo Racing Treatment

It has finally happened. Toyota has now given the Fortuner the GR Sport treatment. With that, the Gazoo Racing brand has gone full circle, encompassing almost the entire current Toyota line-up (the most notable exception being the Innova).

Like the Hilux GR Sport 4WD, the Fortuner GR Sport is said to be influenced by Toyota’s WRC efforts.

Based on the Fortuner Legender (the Philippine market’s LTD variant), the Fortuner GR Sport gets a re-tweaked front bumper complete with gloss black exterior accents and a GR emblem on the grille. It also receives special gunmetal 20-inch black rims with 265/50R20 tires and a “sports-car style rear spoiler.”

Similar to the Hilux GR Sport 4WD, the powertrain remains the same (a 2.8-liter diesel with 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic), but engineers did fit new monotube shock absorbers for better handling response. The front ventilated disc brakes have also been painted red contains the Gazoo Racing logo.

Inside, the Fortuner GR Sport sports a two-tone black and red interior motif. It has perforated suede seats, smoked silver accents, and red stitching scattered throughout. The steering wheel itself gets a red center mark, red stitching, and the GR emblem. The center console is also covered in a carbon fiber pattern. GR emblems on the carpet, start-stop button, and key complete the changes.

Aside from Toyota Safety Sense, the Fortuner GR Sport also adds a blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert to its list of active and passive safety features.

The Fortuner GR Sport comes in three colors—Emotional Red with Black Top, White Pearl with Black Top, and Attitude Black Mica (monotone). It goes on sale in Thailand in September with a suggested retail price of P 1.879 million Thai Baht or about P 2.87 million.

There is still no word whether Toyota Motor Philippines will bring in the Fortuner GR Sport for the local market.

  1. Really hate that black top. Imagine it's all red. That would be nicer and would look more solid. You'll get tired of that two tone black top eventually. Plus it reminds you of a hearse.
