Grab App Now Offers Emergency Button

Grab is introducing a new feature that should help keep its riders at ease during lone commutes, especially at night: an Emergency SOS button.

As part of the Grab app’s latest update, an “Emergency” button appears when you get a driver and while in transit. And with just a few taps, it can connect you to the Philippines’s national emergency number: 911 and/or send an SMS automatically to one of three preset emergency contacts from within the app.

Users can do this by:
  1. Tapping “Menu” and then selecting “Emergency.”
  2. At the bottom of the Emergency page, tap “Manage Emergency Contacts.”
  3. Add up to 3 contact numbers in the list.
After that, once in an emergency, you’ll be given the option of “Call the Police” and/or “Notify Emergency Contacts.”
