Mazda Philippines Updates MX-5 Soft Top and RF for 2018 (w/ Specs)

True to form, Mazda is using its Bundled Product Planning to add a host of dynamic improvements and upgraded safety appointments to its best-selling MX-5 sportscar for 2018.

For the soft-top roadster, 2018 marks the arrival of a re-tuned power steering system and refined rear suspension in order to give it more agile handling and improved riding comfort. In addition, Mazda Philippines is making available the limited-edition Dark Cherry fabric canopy exclusively for the 6-speed automatic variant. Machine Gray and Soul Red Crystal are also available color choices for the soft-top.

Meanwhile, for the MX-5 RF, clamors for a manual transmission variant have finally been answered as the Retractable Fastback now comes in both manual and automatic transmission variants for the first time. Interestingly, Nappa Leather is still an available option with the automatic variant, while black leather is standard for the manual.

All 2018 MX-5 RF models get added safety in the form of Adaptive LED Headlamps (ALH) which automatically control the headlight aim and intensity based on driving conditions. This is also a standard feature for the automatic transmission variant of the MX-5 soft top. Meanwhile, Lane Departure Warning, which alerts drivers if they begin to stray out of the lane they’re on comes standard on the 2018 MX-5 RF line as well as in the automatic soft top variant.

“Mazda Philippines is continuously providing driving enthusiasts the latest offerings of the world’s most popular sports car, the MX-5,” shares BAP president and CEO Steven Tan. He adds, “There has always been a strong demand for the MX-5 in the Philippines. By offering our customers not only an improved product, but also more trim options to choose from, we believe our fans will be able to find the ideal sports car that expresses their love and passion for driving.”

Pricing for the 2018 MX-5 is as follows:
  • Soft Top 2.0L M/T – P 1,880,000
  • Soft Top 2.0L A/T – P 2,080,000

  3. MX5 vs 86 debate needs to stop! We need to be happy that these 2 rear wheel drive, light and affordable fun cars are here for us. More completion and choices is good for us customers! The only reason someone has to say negative things about the other choices is to validate their choice (ego trip). IF you are a true driving enthusiast, we will welcome more choices and more completion. Let's just hope and pray that they will always continue to make these cars, continue to make it affordable and available for us. Hope they bring back the S2000 and hope that we have more choices. Let's act a little bit more grown up please. Just a little advice, choose a car for yourself to have some fun and not for what others think. Forget about social status, looking cool, getting girls, having bragging rights with cars. All ego stuff, this is why sport car drivers have a bad reputation! This is like choosing a wife to show her off to others, stupid right? Choose a sports car or your wife that will make you happy and enjoy life! Buy a sports car for enjoyment and fun driving experiences. Buy the car that you fall in love with not the car that you feel others will think you're cool. Learn how to improve you're driving skills and driving techniques. This type of mindset will make you a happier! Once you do this, you will truly be part of real "driving enthusiast club".

  5. What exact battery does Mx5 2018 have? I was being referred to a motolite NS60 motolite Gold. Is this compatible? Thank you.

    1. MX-5 requires an EFB battery for the i-stop to work. The Motolite NS60 isn't designed for that. It may work, but you stand to lose the i-stop function (either that, or the battery won't last long). Suggest that you contact your nearest Mazda dealership for proper fitment details.
