Mazda Philippines Updates MX-5 Soft Top and RF for 2018 (w/ Specs)

True to form, Mazda is using its Bundled Product Planning to add a host of dynamic improvements and upgraded safety appointments to its best-selling MX-5 sportscar for 2018.

For the soft-top roadster, 2018 marks the arrival of a re-tuned power steering system and refined rear suspension in order to give it more agile handling and improved riding comfort. In addition, Mazda Philippines is making available the limited-edition Dark Cherry fabric canopy exclusively for the 6-speed automatic variant. Machine Gray and Soul Red Crystal are also available color choices for the soft-top.

Meanwhile, for the MX-5 RF, clamors for a manual transmission variant have finally been answered as the Retractable Fastback now comes in both manual and automatic transmission variants for the first time. Interestingly, Nappa Leather is still an available option with the automatic variant, while black leather is standard for the manual.

All 2018 MX-5 RF models get added safety in the form of Adaptive LED Headlamps (ALH) which automatically control the headlight aim and intensity based on driving conditions. This is also a standard feature for the automatic transmission variant of the MX-5 soft top. Meanwhile, Lane Departure Warning, which alerts drivers if they begin to stray out of the lane they’re on comes standard on the 2018 MX-5 RF line as well as in the automatic soft top variant.

“Mazda Philippines is continuously providing driving enthusiasts the latest offerings of the world’s most popular sports car, the MX-5,” shares BAP president and CEO Steven Tan. He adds, “There has always been a strong demand for the MX-5 in the Philippines. By offering our customers not only an improved product, but also more trim options to choose from, we believe our fans will be able to find the ideal sports car that expresses their love and passion for driving.”

  3. They did the impossible. The most girly car became even girly with that cherry canopy. Yung mga pederasyon siguradong nag celebrate dahil dito.

  4. The world's most popular gay car with the cherry soft top. LMAO!

At that price, real men will choose the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ instead while faggots will surely choose this cherry softie.

    1. Brz? Lol, that thing is prehistoric, look at its infotainment. And even with 200hp, the 160hp mazda mx5 is still faster than your 86/brz while being more fun to drive. It's also the besr selling roadster in history

    2. Prehistoric blah blah faster blah blah fun to drive yadayada. But that doesn't change the fact that this is a girly car for girly men.

You're hitting the infotainment of the BRZ but do you realize, it's 2018 yet the Miata has no Apple carplay/Android Auto and no rear backing camera despite having those blind spots. Atleast the BRZ/86 has a rear backing camera to help against blind spots.

It's not worth it for its price.

    4. Girly in what way? I would prefer its sharp sophisticated and exotic looks over the boring and common design of the 86/brz.
Correction, the mx5 has a rear view camera with sensors, stop spreading false information. The bluetooth connects seamlessly so android auto or apple carplay isn't an issue unless maybe if you're a tech geek, in fact, 99% of the cars sold here doesn't have those yet. The brz is the worst, old platform, cheap interior, prehistoric 2din system w/ no bluetooth, lol. I mean comeon, how could you defend that car's shortcomings. How can the BRZ have a rear backup camera if it doesn't even have a monitor to begin with, lol. And the mx5 looks more expensive, far more fun to drive and faster in a straight line and more so on the track and on corners despite having less 40 horses. Power is not everything, it is how you are able to use it.

MX5 is the girliest girly 2 door car available on our market. No masculine description such as "sharp sophisticated and exotic looks" from fanboys like you can justify its girly characteristics.

    6. ^ Spot on. The MX5 is being ridiculed worldwide by purist, it's expensive for what you get. That's what i usually see from reviews and in youtube.

Yes the BRZ has a prehistoric 2 din infotainment system but then again, buyers prefer the 86 over the BRZ since the 86 is cheaper and has more usable overall package in it. It has a touch screen infotainment system with backing camera.

You're the one spreading lies. Yes there's a rear parking sensors but there's no rear backing camera as stated in the article and based from reviews worldwide EXCEPT for JDM versions. The MX5 is being ridiculed abroad for being expensive for what you get, it's not worth it.

The Miata is faster due to 200kg less weight and short gearing ratio but with the annoying body roll. It also has better OEM tires than the 86/BRZ. But at the end of the day, the 86/BRZ still wins the heart of enthusiast, better mods potential, better safety levels, more aftermarket parts, etc.

    8. That being said, i still commend Mazda for producing probably the best if not one of the best paint job i've ever seen in any car.

    9. Thanks for the correction, I thought all mazdas with infotainment systems have a backup camere. Besides, with the mx5 being so small, you don't really need a camera unless you don't know how to park in which you should'nt be driving in the first place.

As for the price, how about expensive convertibles such as the BMW Z4? Or the porsche 718? Are they twice or thrice the cae for the price? I heard that the mx5 is still more fun to drive than those more expensive cars. You buy cars like these for the fun factor, and in that regard, the mx5 wins. So in the end, the mx5 is still faster than the 86/brz, no need to make excuses for those 2 slower cars. That bodyroll actually adds to the fun in fact, a real car enthusiast won't be annoyed by the body roll part, he embraces it. You feel more connected to the car.

You won't need to mod the mx5 that much because it is already so much fun and there's not much to improve in terms of looks because it is already perfect, especially the rf. The reason why you mod other car brands that much is because they are still lacking. The 2 things that you would mod in the mx5 would be changing the wheels and upgrading the exhaust system.

    10. Blah blah. Daming sinabi. In the end, only girly men will buy this. Real men should stay away from this car.

  5. "real fat men" with small swords tend to mask their lack of masculinity buy choosing a pickup, suv or a muscle car. Us real men with large swords don't have to do that.
