If you find the CX-9 AWD a bit too rich for your taste, Mazda now offers another choice for you. Set to be publicly unveiled at the upcoming Zoomfest 2018 alongside the revised MX-5, the CX-9 7-seater crossover now gets a front-wheel drive variant that’s priced much more competitively.
Priced at almost P 500,000 less than the AWD Grand Touring, the CX-9 FWD loses a hefty amount of equipment to get to its new, more competitive price point. Aside from the loss of i-ACTIV AWD, the CX-9 AWD chucks out the following:
- Sunroof
- Power Liftgate
- Bose sound system
- Active Driving Display (heads-up display)
- Auto-dimming Rear View Mirror
- Rear Sunshade
- Lane Departure Warning
- Lane Keep Assist
- Blind Spot Monitoring
Don’t fret though, because the CX-9 FWD isn’t all bad. It still retains the services of the 2.5-liter turbocharged Skyactiv-G engine making 231 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque using 91-93 RON unleaded fuel.
In case you still find the Mazda CX-9 FWD a steal, it can be had for P 2,350,000. By comparison, the AWD Grand Touring sets you back P 2,830,000—that’s a savings of P 480,000.
Given how much a lot of Filipinos love 7-seat, diesel SUVs/crossovers, it's surprising that they still haven't launched the CX-8 here.

DeleteUnless Mazda decides later on to engineer and LHD version, then CX-8 will be for RHD territories only.
They’ll be launching the CX-8 soon, we think. It’s been previewed in China as a LHD model.

DeleteI would still go for the top variant. I bought a mid spec car and until now, I longed for the top variant. Never again will I penny pinch and will go for my heart's desire.

DeleteI always thought that buying a car should be like buying a house. It's for keeps, at least up to its useful life unless you're super rich. A car is something that loses its value in time even if you use it less. Therefore, buying and selling it because you want to upgrade is more expensive than buying a high spec car the first time.
DeleteThe AWD variant is as good as useless anyways as it has a poor performing AWD system. Watch it on Youtube how it fails even for a Diagonal test on a paved road. LOL
