Omoda & Jaecoo Country Manager Responds To Dealer And Snapping Axle Stories


That was quick. Less than a couple of hours after we published two articles detailing some issues surrounding Omoda & Jaecoo (read here and here), Marco Chen, Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines country manager personally reached out and aired his side to the story.

When it comes to three dealer groups left to serve as O&J Philippines’ inaugural dealers, this is what he had to say:

“We have currently signed 23 LOIs [Letters of Intent] and confirmed the showroom locations for over five of them. Over the next two weeks, we will begin signing DAs [Distributorship Agreements] with dealers one by one. We will announce the details of the DA signings. Our market entry will involve sales through formal dealership, temporary display, and mall display.”

Chen’s statement to us doesn’t categorically say whether all ten dealer groups are continuing to be O&J dealers, but at the very least, it could mean that there are more than three of them.

And as for the dealer groups that went to the Beijing business conference? Chen clarified that due to the limitations imposed on the number of attendees, only three were formally invited by O&J.

Chen also had this to say about the Omoda 5 issues in Malayasia, Indonesia, and Australia:
“I believe that the issue has already been resolved due to their local production capabilities.”
Finally, when it comes to O&J’s local launch plans, Chen is adamant that it will go as planned in the second half of 2024. “The Philippines is a very important and special market for us,” he says. “We are proceeding with caution every step of the way.”

Now begs the question: does his statements instill confidence in Omoda & Jaecoo? Or will this be a case of failure to launch? What do you think? Sound off below.

  2. To be safe, avoid all Chinese cars in general. I mean, you're paying a lot of money for a car. Might as well place it on a safer bet.

  3. I am 101% confident that this Omoda&Jaecoo tandem will go nowhere even if they adressed the bad issues abroad. I've seen their units in MIAS and there are no Diamonds cutting edge technologies, design, powertrain that they can beat the other chinese rivals. Just imagine their estimated selling prices morethan the established MGs , Geelys and GACs. I hope they change their strategy if they want to be alive.

  6. There's no problem with LHD Chery,Omoda,Jaecoo and Jetour vehicles exported and sold in the Philippines as it's proven already that those units are way more reliable..
    Omoda and Jaecoo are meant to compete with the mid and premium level SUVs of GWM,GAC,BAIC and Lynk and Co.

    3. LHD export market versions of Jetour,Chery and Omoda vehicles produced in that factory got totally different specifications,settings and got much higher quality compared to the China market only LHD versions

    There has been a lot of rush even when they are not ready. When word got out of an Omoda brand coming to the market, they don't even have a web site to present. O&J is on two local car shows and yet they have nothing to sell just yet. Something untold is happening here, hope it is not that bad. During MIAS, 3 cars were presented but no product collateral were available. Interest in the product normally peaks during a show or exhibit so if late by another 6 months, participating in a show is a waste of the momentum.

    7. Japanese car fanatics especially the DNGA Toyota fanatics are so insecure and afraid of Chinese vehicles which got much better quality and much safer than the 3rd world poverty spec vehicles produced by Toyota Thailand,Toyota Indonesia and Maruti Suzuki India.

  9. One year after O&J loaded Motoring Sites with lots of write ups and 2 cars shows later, this brand is still not ready to launch and the potential dealers are getting tired of waiting. With all the hype and awareness campaigns, as of today it is all but marketing fart. Soon momentum will be lost. And with the quality issues coming out, it is showing too much rush.

    1. Quality issues only showed up on the RHD export market versions.
      LHD export version of the vehicles that will be sold in the Philippines are much more reliable
      No need for Omoda and Jaecoo to rush as its sister brands Chery and Jetour are doing fine in the Philippine market

    2. A bad start will most likely lead to a fall. Even a good start from a new entrant cannot withstand the hiccups along the way. Kudos to the swift crisis communication approach though.

    3. RHD, LHD it has the same quality, same factory, same quality control. its already dead b4 it arrives. its just a waste of money for prospective dealers, no one will buy it.

      RHD units are produced by Chery Malaysia only
      Chery Philippines won't source its vehicles in Malaysia as they don't fully trust the ones made in Malaysia.

  10. Agree. Dont buy CHINESE cars, yes they may have improved but its a matter of relations. UNTIL thry can fix their problems with their water canons, they will not succeed here in PH. But hey filipinos are so dumb, being carried with their tech , imfluencers promoting their shit cars. Probably they are just laughing at us.
