This Restaurant in a Mazda Dealership Serves the Best Japanese Food in Town

First Drive: 2018 Subaru XV 2.0i-S
Six years ago, when it was spun out as its own distinct model (it used to be a variant of the Impreza), Subaru successfully carved a market for itself. No one, probably not even Subaru, thought that a slightly-smaller-but-not-too-small compact crossover would quickly become one of its most loved and best-selling core models. Hoping that lightning would strike twice, the all-wheel drive specialist isn’t taking any chances.

FoilaFly Offers Airplane Ownership at a Fraction of the Cost
Quick: name a destination you can get to from Manila in about an hour and a half using your fancy super car? No matter how many horsepower it packs, the usual answers would be Tagaytay or when traffic permits, probably Batangas or Subic. But what if there’s a way to get to more alluring destinations such as Boracay, Palawan, or Cebu in the same amount of time at the cost less than owning a super car? That’s the concept behind FoilaFly, a new division of the ever-growing Foilacar Industries.

First Drive: 2017 BMW X1 xDrive20d xLINE
There’s a big shift going on at BMW. After its first front-wheel drive offering, the 2 Series Active Tourer, here comes a compact crossover built atop the same platform: the second-generation X1. In as much as the 2 Series Active Tourer left enthusiasts scratching their heads discomfortingly, it’s more of a niche vehicle. That’s not the case with the X1. Moving some 730,000 examples in the past 7 years, it’s become an important part of BMW’s X family. They, therefore, cannot afford to get this one wrong.

First Drive: 2017 Kia Picanto 1.0 M/T
The opening montage says it all: Kia wants to turn a new chapter with the all-new Picanto. The video, filled with energetic 20-somethings showed them calling friends on their smartphones, getting a latte at a hipster café, and even high-fiving each other as they whip out their foldable bike before hitting a trail nearby. In-between shots of bright cityscape, pearly-white smiles, and occasional lens flare, the Picanto is there zooming and zipping around, doing what these youngsters want to live a happy, fulfilled life.

Stopping Bad Coffee and Cars: Coffee Crawling with the Toyota Corolla Altis
Ah, the humble cup of coffee. Most of us take one or two in the morning to start the day off without even caring about the magic that happens inside that pot. As the world’s most consumed caffeinated drink, it’s become so common that for as long as you can brew, sip, and go on your way, everything is right with the world. This was the 1960s.

The Great Adventure: Driving the Nissan Navara in Morocco (w/ Video)
Glancing to the left and right, there’s nothing but large expanse of desert. Breaking off from the only paved highway in the area, the convoy snaked down towards a town in Tisserdmine, Morocco. Almost immediately, the deafening silence is replaced by the sound of pebbles, pelting against the wheel well of the Nissan NP300 Navara. And then, a crackle on the two-way radio: “Guys, engage four-wheel drive and go flat out. Head towards the horizon; we’ll re-group there.”

What Engine Does the Nissan GT-R Use in Super GT?
Everyone knows that the R35 Nissan GT-R is synonymous with its mind-blowing 3.8-liter VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 engine. Generating 570 horsepower and 633 Nm of torque in its 2017 guise, it eats more expensive super cars for breakfast. And though this engine is powerful and durable enough for motorsports use, did you know that Nissan doesn’t use this engine for its Super GT effort, at least in the top-tier GT500 class?

First Drive: 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer and Chevrolet Colorado
Chevrolet has one mission when it comes to updating the Trailblazer and Colorado. Knowing they have the segment’s best mechanicals that still deliver class-leading numbers, they simply needed to make both exude a more premium feel. Chevrolet acknowledges the criticisms leveled at their less than stellar interiors before, and now, they’ve come back with a vengeance. The 2017 Trailblazer and Colorado may very well be the best in their segments.

SsangYong Moves to Build Advanced Engines
SsangYong Motors is remembered mostly for their tie-up with Mercedes-Benz producing products such as the MB100 (Istana) and Musso. Though that arrangement happened to span only three years (1991 to 93), it left an indelible mark on the company that remains with them until today. Moving forward from simple licensing agreements, SsangYong is inching towards a corporate vision of becoming the “most innovative and respected Korean automotive company”. Flush with cash from its acquisition by the Mahindra & Mahindra Group, SsangYong plans to expand its global footprint by selling 300,000 units globally.

SsangYong Designs Now Are Inspired by Korea and Nature
In the past, SsangYong has made cars which were as visually challenging to understand as their nameplates: Rexton, Actyon, and Rodius. In fact, for decades, the brand seemed to look for inspiration from the West only to have the finished product look like something that was subjected to a Korean cultural blender. Well, SsangYong is putting that past behind them and now all eyes are on the double dragons and this time, it’s for a good reason.
