Nissan X-Trail e-Power To Make ASEAN Debut

Nissan is giving its X-Trail e-Power a regional debut at the Singapore Motor Show 2023 as part of its commitment to provide the widest array of electrified products in the region.

Similar to its application in the Kicks e-Power, the X-Trail e-Power features an all-electric drive with a gasoline engine serving as a power generator to the onboard battery. Unlike the Kicks though, the X-Trail uses Nissan’s Variable Compression (VC) Turbo engine as the generator. The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder KR15DDT and its VC-Turbo system allows this compact SUV to offer improved energy generation at both low- and high-loads. It also keeps the engine operation as quiet as possible (reduced by 3 decibels, according to Nissan).

Although this engine is also available without e-Power, the main driving force of the X-Trail e-Power is a brand new all-electric motor dubbed BM46. This new motor develops 203 horsepower (150 kW) and 320 Nm of torque.

The e-4orce all-wheel drive technology also applies a dual motor setup to provide traction to all four wheels. In this case, the front-mounted BM46 is paired with the rear-mounted MM48 to provide an extra 135 horsepower and 195 Nm of torque. Plus, by integrating chassis control technology with its dual motor setup, it raises driving performance and confidence on a wide variety of road surfaces.

The X-Trail e-Power also gains e-Power Step which reduces the need to apply the brakes by providing deceleration when the accelerator pedal is released. The function provides increased comfort and a smoother drive on city roads, slippery surfaces, and downhill slopes.

The Nissan X-Trail e-Power is joined by the Ariya EV crossover which is also making its ASEAN debut at the Singapore Motor Show. The Ariya will also serve as the launch point for Nissan’s new electrified brand identity for Southeast Asia.

With the Singapore market launch of the X-Trail e-Power and the Ariya, it will only be a matter of time before it reaches other ASEAN markets such as the Philippines. Perhaps it could be one of the big surprises this 2023?
