Strong Sportage Sales Helps Boost Kia's Global Sales Past 2.9 Million Vehicles In 2022


Kia Corporation has announced that it managed to sell 2,903,619 vehicles in 2022—a 4.6 percent increase year-on-year.

The Korean carmaker’s sales outside of Korea saw a 5.4 percent increase versus the previous year to 2,362,551 units despite the ongoing challenges surrounding semi-conductors and logistics. Sales in its home country totaled 541,068 units.

For December 2022, Kia’s global monthly sales increased by 13.7 percent from a year earlier to 236,874 vehicles.

In the Philippines, as of the first 11 months of 2022, Kia Philippines remains solidly in the Top 10 best-selling automotive brands, moving some 4,428 units. The brand is also among the Top 10 best-selling passenger car and commercial vehicle brands.

In terms of models, the Sportage compact SUV was the brand’s best-seller moving a total of 452,068 units. This is followed by the Seltos compact crossover with 310,418 and the Sorento mid-sized SUV with 222,570. In terms of all-electric vehicles, the EV6 managed to move nearly 80,000 units globally.

This year, Kia is targeting global sales of 3.2 million units. By region, Kia expects to sell 585,120 units in Korea and 2.61 million vehicles overseas.

Kia plans to maintain its sales momentum in 2023 by establishing solid strategies to expand businesses in various markets, successfully develop Purpose Built Vehicles (PBVs) with flexible production system, and launch customer-centric products and solutions.

The company will also look to strengthen its leadership position in the global electric vehicle market with its unique electrified mobility line-up. This year, Kia will introduce several highly anticipated models, such as the EV9 SUV in early 2023.
