The Revamped 2023 Toyota Hilux GR Sport Eats Ranger Raptors For Breakfast

Toyota is closing the gap to the Ford Ranger Raptor in the high-performance pickup segment with the launch of the revamped Hilux GR Sport. The 2023 model features a more off-road focused design with more power, wider tracks, tuned suspension, and bigger disc brakes.

The new hardcore off-roader is the most powerful diesel Hilux ever with 10 percent more power (224 horsepower) and 550 Nm of torque. This is courtesy of a revised turbocharger and fuel injectors.

Combined with sportier tuning for the automatic transmission and an expanded lock-up area, the Hilux GR Sport provides added confidence for accelerating and overtaking in all conditions, enhanced by optimal control through paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The new platform also adopts wider tracks—extended by 140 mm at the front and 155 mm at the back with re-designed wishbones and a reinforced rear axle to cater for the most demanding driving conditions.

Dedicated monotube shock absorbers with higher damping force and heat-dissipation capacity, stiffer coil springs, and an optimal front-rear suspension balance deliver outstanding handling, increasing stability through reduced roll angle and giving precise steering response. The set-up also enables the driver to enjoy the Hilux GR Sport without compromising ride comfort for everyday use.

Transmitting the heightened power and handling, the Hilux GR Sport wears a Dakar-inspired styling with an upright grille (optimized for cooling) with the signature GR grille mesh and “TOYOTA” lettering. It also rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires. Its off-road credentials are further reinforced by the addition of a skid plate, rock rails, and red rear recovery points.

Inside, the monochromatic black theme is set off with bright sports pedals and red seatbelts. GR branding is featured inside and out, including on the steering wheel, headrests, red brake calipers, exterior badges, and even embossed into the bedliner.

So far, Toyota has confirmed the new Hilux GR Sport for the Australian market where it will launch there towards the second half of 2023.

  1. Tapos biglang labas si 400hp ranger raptor lol.

  2. The fox suspension is what sells the raptor. Not the engine.
No amount of hoolabaloo hilux modifications will ever match this.

  3. Ho-hum, just watched a local video pitting a remapped TOTL Hi-Lux versus a remapped TOTL D-Max, the D-Max easily won the best of 3 by 2 car lengths at least. There is still no replacement for displacement. Todo na yang Raptor 2.0L & Hi-Lux GR-S, hina pa rin. Australian D-Max ECU tuners can easily get almost 300hp/750Nm from the D-Max with the 3.0L 4JJ3-TCX.

  4. In terms of reliability/durability hilux and dmax were still d best compared with that not so so ranger/raptor

  5. Id like to see this gr sport compare to the new 400hp ranger raptor and see how the hilux will eat it for breakfast😂😂

  6. front fascia, side and back still looks old and boring sad to say

  7. Hope Toyota can come up with a new design. Front fascia, side; and back looks old and boring sad to say
