Honda Customers In the Philippines Are Loving The Hybrids

Honda customers in the Philippines is far more accepting of electrified vehicles compared to the industry average. This is just one of the conclusions gathered from data presented by Honda Cars Philippines president Ms. Rie Miyake during their annual 2024 Business Update.

New car sales, according to the CAMPI-TMA report, reached 467,252 units in 2024. Out of this figure, Honda sold 15,518—a 3.32% share of the local market. While this is 6.77% lower in terms of absolute numbers, Honda enjoyed brisk growth in their higher margin products such as the HR-V and CR-V which saw sales up 18% and 51%, respectively. Effectively, one of the few remaining sub-compact hatchbacks in the market, the City Hatchback proved to be another star thanks to a 25% year-on-year increase.

In terms of electrified vehicle adoption, around 8 percent of Honda owners opted for the brand’s e:HEV system. This is far higher than the average industry’s acceptance of electrified vehicles which currently sits between 4 to 6 percent.

Even more interesting is that Honda was able to achieve this almost solely with the CR-V RS e:HEV. According to Miyake-san, out of the approximately 1,800 CR-Vs sold in the country, around 1,200 were the RS e:HEV last year. This meant that 1 out of 3 (66 percent) of CR-V owners embraced electrification over the two other turbo variants. We also picked the CR-V as one of our Top Picks for 2024.

The CR-V RS e:HEV’s stellar sales performance means Honda Cars Philippines is bullish on the prospects of the Civic RS e:HEV which was launched at the 9th Philippine International Motor Show. It will soon be followed by their third electrified vehicle, the HR-V RS e:HEV in March.

Other models that contributed greatly to Honda’s performance in 2024 include their best-seller, the BR-V with around 5,000 units sold and the City Sedan with 3,000 units sold.

  1. Maybe its the sunroof thats entice crv buyers, just like the coolray then and now buyers entice by byd touchscreen and sunroof. Emotional buy rather than practical, but its ok, if san ka masaya doon ka.

    1. I think a lot would factor in fuel efficiency and coding exemption more rather than the sunroof :/

  2. As a BYD owner, the sunroof definitely wasn't a factor.
The touchscreen, I would admit is a factor, but not deal breaker.

    1. Good luck sa BYD car owner. Daming mga issue ang BYD sa China. Low quality at madaling masira, sa labas lang maganda. Kaya no wonder ang daming nagpa reserve ng Tesla model Y 2025. More than 50,000 customers na, pero ang BYD at other brands ay walang benta.

    2. Byd gaya rin yan nang coolray noon, but once the hype is gone - in a year or two reality will bites na sirain byd, no parts available. once warrantry expires - pricy parts replacements/maintenance, battery replacement estimated at half the price of the car

  3. They twist data but never market behavior, if doing well why give discounts. Probably masking the truth

    1. The discounts are always part of marketing, and it works. Buyers tend to think that if you give them freebies + discounts, they're getting a better value.

Of course, on the flipside, a brand has to be careful not to go down so much. It could damage the brand.

Japanese car rival is Korea and Chinese cars, in Korea most Korean will not buy Japanese car.
In automobile, everyone have his/her opinions and choice of their car. We must choose right price, not overpricing, hindi sobra taga, good quality at safety ng car. Mabuhay ang Filipino.
