2023 Suzuki Jimny Launched In New 5-Door Format

The much-awaited 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny has made its global debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in India.

In terms of design, Jimny 5-door continues to get the same front fascia that is largely dominated by circular headlamps, a large multi-slot grille and a short bumper. The side profile too gets a similar stance and features clean cuts along with strong wheel arches. It even keeps the rear-mounted spare tire.

Compared to the 3-door version, the 5-door Jimny now has a 2,590 mm wheelbase and an overall length stretched to 3,985 mm (+ 340 mm). The overall width and height remain the same. For the 5-door version, Suzuki re-engineered the rear doors and seats.

True to its off-road centric design, it has a 36-degree approach, 24-degree break over, and 50-degree departure angle. Ground clearance is at 210 mm.

Like the original 3-door Jimny, the Jimny 5-door is powered by the 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine with 105 horsepower and 134 Nm of torque. With a new idle start/stop feature, it should improve overall fuel economy. It also keeps its manual transfer case as well as part-time four-wheel drive system (Suzuki AllGrip Pro 4WD) mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

Inside, no major changes have been made to the dashboard layout and the Jimny continues to get an all-black cabin with a large touchscreen system in the center with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On the features front, it gets features like automatic climate control, electrically operated side mirrors, steering-mounted controls, and power windows.

However, at least they upped the safety with 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill hold assist, and hill descent control. A rearview camera has been added too.

Indian retail sales start in May. With the Philippines sourcing the Jimny from India, it will only be a matter of time before Suzuki Philippines brings it in. Perhaps it could even come in as early as the second half of 2023?

    1. If this jimny supposed to be a global model which European or Japanese market are included, they should make their build quality always in check.

    2. @中出し Carmakers are already improving the safety and quality of their vehicles. Even its just normal to have complaints against automakers as this is the way we are living right now.

    3. Not a problem if the Suzuki head office in Japan can maintain the same build quality for their overseas plants. I'm not convinced the other 3rd world assembly plants are any better.

  3. For those who can afford the Jimny, a long waiting period for sure. Lucky future owners 😊👍

  4. If this is priced right this should be a best-seller. Better rough- & offroading capabilities than those pretentious PPVs (most of those sold are 4x2s anyway) & "lifestyle" trucks.

  5. A 5-door but in 4x2 would be cheaper, just like the 2WD CRVs & RAV4s. Hope Suzuki considers this. Not everyone needs 4x4.
