BMW Just Gave the X2 Its Most Powerful 4-Cylinder Engine Ever

BMW has chosen its X2 Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) to receive the brand’s most powerful 4-cylinder ever.

Signaling a new performance benchmark for compact SACs, the BMW X2 M35i packs 306 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque thanks to M Performance’s first-ever 4-cylinder engine. Mated to an 8-speed automatic, it rockets this SUV-coupe-thing to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Ensuring that this power is securely transferred to the road, it comes with BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive system, xDrive.

The extroverted, yet polarizing design adds some differentiation because of its “M” designation. The double kidney grille now features a Cerium Grey surround as do the air-cooling inlets and side mirrors. At the back, it gets an M rear spoiler and two specially-designed 100-mm exhaust pipes, also finished in Cerium Grey. 19-inch rims are standard, while 20’s are optional.

Being a typical M Performance automobile, the BMW X2 M35i features, in addition to a powerful engine, also a M Sport suspension system that has been specifically tuned and adapted to match the car’s sporty character.

Making its premiere for an M Performance automobile is the M Sport Differential that’s been installed in the front axle. During dynamic driving maneuvers, this locking differential most effectively reduces possible traction loss on the front wheels. In addition, the X2 M35i gets larger brakes, as well as a revised steering and suspension setup to cope with the added power.

Inside, the M Sport Package comes standard, but uplifted with a variant-specific M Sport leather steering wheel and M sports seats.

Production starts by end of 2018, with retail sales to start in Europe first by March 2019. Other markets, such as the Philippines, will follow soon thereafter.
