Honda Is Most Searched Car Brand By Filipinos In 2021

Honda maintains the top spot as the most searched car brand by Filipinos. This was compiled by Australian insurance specialist, Compare the Market using Google Trends data.

With several new products launched throughout 2021 including the HR-V (Vezel), BR-V, and the Philippine launch of several anticipated models like the all-new Civic and City Hatchback, Honda is definitely at the top of mind of Filipino internet users.

Globally though, Toyota remains in the top spot being the most searched car brand in 2021 in 47 out of 154 countries analyzed, or 31 percent of all searches. According to Compare the Market, this was driven by new products such as the Land Cruiser, Corolla Cross, and also the announcement of its Battery Electric Vehicle or BEV range.

In the four years Compare the Market has conducted the study, Toyota came out on top three times—2018, 2020, and 2021. The one time it lost was in 2019, when BMW became the most-searched car brand. BMW though remains a popular search in European countries.

Despite its domination, Toyota’s Google searches are down 3.8 percent compared to 2020. A possible explanation for the dip is that several other car brands saw increased interest.

For example, Tesla entered customer minds for the first time becoming the most searched car brand in at least five countries, including China. Other brands on the rise include Audi and Hyundai which appeared in more Google searches last year compared to in 2020. Audi more than doubled the number of countries where it appeared as a top search, moving from 6th position to 4th position. Suzuki also reappeared as a top search in several countries as well as Rolls-Royce and Mazda.

Mercedes-Benz is in third place for the fourth consecutive year, but in 2021 it closed the gap pretty significantly, and is only six countries short of second place. In 2020, it was 19 countries behind BMW. Audi also climbed the ranks, increasing its position from 6th to 4th.

In contrast, Ford, Volvo, Nissan, and Peugeot appear to be running out of motor when it comes to search interest, with each brand’s ranking dropping by at least three places. In addition, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi, and Alfa Romeo are all brands that dropped  out of the race and didn’t make the list for top searched vehicle brand in any country in 2021.

  1. What if they counted searches for Honda Motorcycles too? Makes sense it's #1 if it only counts the keyword "Honda".
