2020 Toyota Supra vs 2019 BMW Z4: By the Numbers
Now that Toyota has finally removed the wraps off the 2020 Supra after what seemed like a ka-zillion years of teasing, comparisons against other sportscars would be inevitable. In this round, we’re comparing the Supra against its sister car, the 2019 BMW Z4. Plus, we’re also throwing a curve ball and mixing in the smaller Toyota 86 and similarly-priced Nissan 370Z NISMO to see how everyone stacks up. Let’s begin.

Review: 2024 BMW Z4 sDrive20i
Credit Toyota and their decision to resurrect the Supra for the existence of the third-generation BMW Z4, but whatever the result stemming from the boardroom meetings of the two carmakers, don’t discredit the fact that this is actually available at BMW showrooms. Just when the market appeal for roadsters has softened, this G29 is the best version to have come out of Munich; well, technically the Magna plant in Austria, but who cares. It’s a return to fighting form and one that has it nipping at greatness.

The LTO's Motor Vehicle Inspection Scheme is F*cked Up
A broken Subaru differential, a casa-maintained BMW with “weak” brakes, and now a Land Cruiser with an exhaust so loud it will literally kill you. We gave the LTO’s new motor vehicle inspection service or PMVIC the benefit of the doubt. And about a week in, the results are in: we, as motorists, are fucked.

I'm Not Digging the 2020 Toyota Supra (w/ 21 Photos)
So the world gets an all-new Toyota Supra. Yay. Hurray. Nothing to see here, so move along. After countless concept cars, teases, spy shots, unintentional reveals, and all—I’m pretty underwhelmed at the final result. Sure, some of us will get a kick out of some 1990s nostalgia, but that’s all the all-new Supra really is: nostalgia. It’s the JDM New Beetle, honestly.

Review: BMW 118d Urban
Photos by Ulysses Ang |
Normally,
you'll be cursing to yourself when you've got a BMW stuck in midday EDSA
traffic. Normally, you'll be wishing for a wide, open road with a
billiard-smooth surface to sample the BMW's impeccable balance and spirited
engine. Normally, you'd wish everyday was a Sunday. Sadly, Sunday happens just
once a week and in the six other days, you have to be content crawling through
traffic in your P 2-million hatchback. Yet, for all the traffic and
unpredictable weather Manila offers, this is the sort of environment that tests
the all-new BMW 118d. Rarely does a car prove itself while stuck in traffic,
but that's exactly what this premium car did. For a minute, you can forget that
BMW's were designed to tackle the autobahn, and relish a fuel economy that's
close to 20 km/l (and that's not a typo).

First Drive: 2012 BMW 116i Urban and 118d Sport
Photos by Ulysses Ang |
It's as if everything conspired to make the day's drive difficult: the heavens opened up and the traffic was horrendous. Yet, for all the troubles we faced that day, by the end of it, there was a general consensus that the all-new BMW 1 Series is one exceptional automobile. Rarely does a car prove itself while stuck in traffic, but that's exactly what this premium hatchback did. For a minute, you can forget that the BMW 1 Series's "dual personality" stood for the Urban and Sport line and instead, label it as equally capable whether at speed or at rest.

Review: 2021 Toyota GR Supra 3.0
Normally, anyone who’s had the chance to take the Toyota GR Supra would be smitten by it. But beyond the tons of pics done for the ‘gram and the prerequisite social media profile pic change, let’s get down to the brutal truth: is this revival, 17 years in the making worth it, or is Toyota just better off keeping the Supra in its cupboard of legendary nameplates?
