Our first impressions will be out when the embargo lifts on February 4, but what we can tell you is that we put the Haval H9 through its paces both on- and off-road. Specifically, for the latter, we drove it through GWM’s Off-Road Base in China.

Set against a rugged natural terrain, the GWM Off-Road Base is where the Haval H9 was able to showcase its intelligent 4x4 systems and durable and capable powertrains. All in all, it simulates a confidence-inspiring driving experience in real-world conditions.

Beyond the Haval H9 itself, we also got to visit the GWM Technology Center where we sat down with GWM’s international leadership including Mr. James Yang, Vice President of GWM International. Here, he laid down their global strategy and long-term vision focused on 4WD capability, advanced safety, and intelligent technology at accessible value.

Central to all this is their “In the local, for the local” philosophy. Rather than focusing solely on vehicle sales, GWM brings its full automotive ecosystem from R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, and aftersales into local markets, ensuring that products are designed, tested, and supported with local needs in mind.

Then, we got to see firsthand the depth of GWM’s engineering and commitment to quality with a tour around the GWM Crash Test Laboratory—one of Asia’s most advanced safety facilities. Here, the brand put in full display their pursuit of safety standards across its global line-up supported by in-house testing and validation.

Finally, at the GWM Hydrogen Energy Center outlined their long-term roadmap towards diversified and sustainable mobility solutions.
