Honda has given its CR-V compact SUV some tech updates and the availability of a rugged off-road variant, at least in the United States.
Like the updated Civic, which the Philippine market also got, the CR-V increases its infotainment screen size to nine inches—up two from before. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but get this, Google Services is only built in on one trim—the top-of-the-line Sport Touring model.
While the powertrain remains unchanged, the CR-V’s higher trim variants receive a new “Individual” mode in its Drive Mode system. This allows drivers to customize the driving experience through individual settings for characteristics such as throttle response and steering assist.
Another change is with the all-wheel drive system. All CR-Vs equipped with AWD have enhanced traction management. Like before, when a difference in the rotation speed of two wheels is detected (one on each axle) at speeds below 15 km/h, the driving force transmitted to the two most tractive tires, and the braking force applied to the slipping wheels. For 2026, the system can significantly do power transfer and more braking.
The enhanced off-road software in the 2026 CR-V has helped Honda give birth to a new TrailSport variant, at least in the United States.
Available solely as a hybrid with 204 horsepower and 335 Nm combined, the CR-V TrailSport Hybrid adds a more rugged styling with a silver skid garnish, a piano black rear spoiler, black door handles and window surrounds and orange TrailSport badges on the grille and tailgate. Standard Continental CrossContact ATR all-terrain tires (235/60R18), mounted on unique Shark Gray 18-inch wheels, substantially improve traction in dirt, sand, mud, rocky terrain, and snow, but remain quiet and comfortable on the road.
Inside, the TrailSport cabin stands out with the TrailSport logo embroidered on the front seat headrests and molded onto the standard all-season rubber floor mats. Moreover, the CR-V TrailSport Hybrid interior brightens the night with amber ambient lighting in the footwells, overhead console, door handle pocket, door tray and cupholders.
It’s unlikely that the Philippines will ever see the CR-V TrailSport variant, however, expect minor changes—the new infotainment, improved off-road traction, and additional Individual mode—to be included in some of the changes in the CR-V when it’s updated sometime either late this year or next year.
Rugged CR-V, don't think it's right. Besides, CR-V stands for Comfortable Runabout-Vehicle.
