Mitsubishi Motors Taps Nissan, Foxconn For 2 New EVs

In order to gain a foothold in battery electric vehicles, Mitsubishi Motors is teaming up not just with Nissan, but with Foxconn on two separate projects that will come to fruition as early as 2026.

Leveraging its alliance with Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors will use the all-new Leaf as basis for a new BEV model. This will be launched first in North America with other markets, assuming, to follow. Meanwhile, Nissan utilize Mitsubishi’s own plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology moving forward.

Meanwhile, Foxtron, a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (Foxconn) will supply Mitsubishi Motors with a separate battery electric vehicle. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding and will proceed with further negotiations.

The EV model to be supplied to Mitsubishi Motors as an OEM model will be developed by Foxtron, manufactured in Taiwan by Yulon Motor Co., Ltd. (Yulon Motor), and introduced first in the Oceania (Australia and New Zealand markets) as early as the second half of 2026 as well. This will likely be expanded to other regions pending negotiations.

According to Mitsubishi, it features excellent driving performance as an EV and an advanced infotainment system.

  1. Makes sense. Taiwan is one of Mitsubishi's strogest market they still produce the colt hatchback, delica d5, and fuzion there plus other CMC mitsubishi based products. It's like mitsubishi's very own niche aside from the Japanese Market
