The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Finally Gets a Diesel

When Mitsubishi brought back the Eclipse as the Eclipse Cross in 2017, it was already a forbidden fruit to Philippine Mitsubishi fans. Well, that forbidden fruit just got a whole lot tastier because they’ve managed to plop in a diesel engine too!

Announced during the Eclipse Cross’s launch, it took two years for Mitsubishi to swap out the turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder for a 2.2-liter DI-D engine. This enables the Eclipse Cross Diesel to produce 145 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Mated to it is a conventional 8-speed automatic with sports mode. Its tailpipe emissions are also fairly clean thanks to a Urea Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) that scrubs the nasties. If you need to ask, fuel economy is 14.2 km/L in a combined city/highway cycle using the new WLTC protocol.

In Japan, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Diesel starts at 3,061,800 yen (~ P 1.466 million).
