The 2020 Toyota Vios Gets Serious, Officially Drops "Smiling Face" (w/ Specs, Brochure)

Almost exactly two years after its launch in 2018, the Philippines’s best-selling vehicle, the Vios gets a makeover for 2020 (this is how Toyota Motor Philippines officially refers to it). The refreshed subcompact sedan receives a breadth of new updates, and most important of all, a brand-new front fascia.

As revealed by leaks and teasers leading up to the launch, the 2020 Vios receives a new bumper which swaps the universally loathed “grinning look” for one that’s decidedly frowning. The meaner-looking front-end ties into design cues currently seen in the Camry and Corolla Altis models. The rest of the exterior remains the same down to the design of the alloy wheels.

That said, the highest-grade variant adds high-gloss black accents further differentiating it from the low- and mid-tier variants. In addition, the chrome strip in the grille is made to visually continue into the headlights. Improving night-time visibility are LED headlights with integrated DRLs and LED front fog lights—the first time this feature will be offered on the Vios.

Powering the Vios this year remains a choice between a 1.3- or 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The former makes 98 horsepower and 123 Nm of torque, while the latter makes 106 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. Transmission options remain, depending on variant, a 5-speed manual or a CVT.

Ensuring that each trip is safe, the 2020 Vios gives the driver and passengers peace of mind as all variants come with SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution + Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control and Hill-Start Assist Control. Back-up camera is available from G variants, and customers may choose from 3 or 7 SRS airbags for certain variants.

Buyers of the 2020 Vios can enjoy free periodic maintenance package up to 20,000 kilometers, 5-year warranty, and one year comprehensive insurance. Loyal customers may also take advantage of trade-in discounts, while both current car owners and first time buyers can choose from flexible financing deals.

As for pricing, the 2020 Vios comes in 6 variants at the following prices:

  1. Comparing the specs to Honda City, comparing it with the current model of Honda City, i would still prefer Honda City. Toyota can add all the abubot that they want, as long as it has no cruise control, it still hopelessly outclass by Honda. And by 2021 Honda city will release it newer version of the City, the the comparison will be more one-sided

  2. Oh, just buy an MG be it sedan or crossover. It's a lot cheaper. Unlike before, newer, cheaper, better spec'd, better quality Chinese brands are moving in Toyota's lower end segments. The Vios won't be lording it over anymore in there. Even the bit more expensive but highly praised Coolray's 1 million price tag is in Vios' high end territory. The Koreans too are joining the party with their Reinas and Solutos. It's a whole new ball game now. I'm sure Toyota will make up for the price tag difference by throwing in cheaper, longer maintenance and financing costs.

  3. You buy a toyota bcos it lives for decades.
Not because of a luring electronics features of the chinese cars whose parts are scarce and second to none.

Buying a toyota is still the choice of people who know how to value their money
